What do I do about sinus?

One of the lectures I enjoyed most at the ANATS Singing Business seminar was listening to both Dr Robert Hodge (ENT) and Ron Morris (Speech Pathologist). They both had very interesting things to say about the work they do.

The most entertaining and simultaneously freaky thing I learnt from them was Dr Hodges “Magic Mixture”. This is what he advises singers to use to wash the mucous from the back of their nose (mmm – such a delicious topic!).

Mix 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp Bicarb soda, 1/2 tsp glycerine into 600ml of warm water. Sip the mixture through the nose and spit it out your mouth. Absolutely disgusting, but it works! You need to use this much, a 10ml spray just doesn’t do the job, singers!
