Dale Cox Singing

Because everyone has a voice.

Breathe… just breathe (as Faith Hill reminds us!)

Hi everyone.

Well, it has been such a busy first term. I started my post-graduate studies in Vocal Pedagogy at the Queensland Conservatorium, wrote, directed and produced an Easter Musical at Church (Beyond the Cross – with a fantastic team of wonderful talented musicians and actors – thanks guys!) taught singing, of course, and had the utmost delight at singing at my beautiful friend Lori’s wedding in Sydney. What a  busy time, but so rewarding! And what have I learnt? The need to take a breather, to breathe, to think and plan, in singing, in life! The commitment to being a lifelong learner had serendipitously landed me in front of the amazing and talented Adele Nisbet and Irene Bartlett at the Queensland Conservatorium and I am having a fanatstic time!

But back to breathing …  when you breathe for life, you take a long deep breath in to get lots of oxygen, and a quick exhalation to get rid of carbon dioxide and other toxic gases in the lungs. When you breathe for singing you take a quick breath in, then sing out on those toxic gases! If you can slow the exhalation, you have much better notes! And that’s what breath management is all about … in a tiny nutshell!
