Jazz in Japan

Posted on | November 28, 2007 | No Comments

I have returned from Japan today and have had a wonderful trip. One of the really interesting things was the quality of jazz I heard. Tokyo is truly an international city, big and brash and exciting. Every place I went, with the exception of the fabulous gardens, I heard great jazz. Jazz music seems to be the default music of choice. It was wonderful. I even listened to jazz versions of Christmas carols. What a  wonderful, musically sophisticated city!

How much jazz do you listen to? I teach all contemporary styles, but I must admit I am enjoying the challenge of jazz singing myself this year. Listening to a lot of great music will help inform your own singing. If you have never tried anything but rock or pop, remember – sometimes you simply don't know what you don't know, and you may love this style! Listen to some jazz today.
