I was expecting something like this to happen to Adele, I knew, from listening to her singing voice, that she was singing incorrectly and needed to learn proper technique. I think she should be taught Speech Level Singing and learn to use her voice correctly.

Thanks Mykl. I agree, there is always more to learn, to hear, to love, to be surprised at, to make you swoon (well , in singing anyway!) to inspire and to run with!

Truly fantastic news, and a reward for all your hard work. Something I've realised is that if you think you've nothing more to learn, you've stopped caring about your art.

After reading this I just had to leave a comment!

Belting is my favourite part of singing. I love learning a new songs and getting to belt and just release because I never had that when I learnt classically.

So much fun!

Hi Kate,

Thank you for your comments. It is great to find a teacher to guide you through with patience and knowledge. Those lessons of breakthrough sometimes seem a long time coming, but isn't it wonderful when this happens!! Such an incredible feeling - you wonder why everyone doesn't want to do this!
Keep singing!

Hi Dale - I enjoyed this post - I saw the show too and thought Myf did really well considering...
I am here at your blog because I did a search for "twang" and found you. I really love what you have to say.
I'm 52 and have sung all my life - it's really a huge part of who I am - but for many years my voice has become more constricted. At the end of last year I decided to find a teacher and I am SO HAPPY with the person I found. I can't emphasise enough what you say - the one on one is the way to go.
Elly is young, but she's been patient. Our lessons are no more than doing exercises because I really couldn't get the twang thing at all. It's still a struggle, BUT we had a real breakthrough on Monday night....we we both smiling and laughing.
Yes, it's taken this long to START to get there...
So I would say - find a good teacher, never give up, and it's never too late!!!

Hi Fleur, I think you should work with a teacher experienced in teaching belt and twang. At 15 your voice is not mature, and sometimes adolescent voices are still changing and growing, so my advice is never to sing higher than you feel comfortable. Certainly there is such a thing a safe belting and dangerous belting. I would strongly recommend you work with a teacher for your own vocal safety, but a good teacher should be able to help you increase your range and power. Good luck!
